Supreme Court Cards, Signed

For quite some time, many collectors and dealers believed that the first Justice of the Supreme Court to sign Supreme Court engraved cards was Charles Evans Hughes. Thanks to the help of collector Trent McCotter, theupdate is that it now appears that Justice Edward Sanford was the first to sign these most popular cards. See illuistration below.

 Edward Sanford was born on July 23, 1865 and died on March 6, 1930.

He was an Associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from January 29, 1923 until his death from poisioning for having a tooth extracted.
